Byron Atkinson Joins B. E. Smith as Vice President, Leadership Advisor
Responding to increasing demand for interim and permanent leadership in Academic Medical Centers and Children’s Hospitals, B. E. Smith has hired Byron Atkinson as Vice President, Leadership Advisor for the firm’s Interim Leadership and Advisory Services division. Healthcare executive with more than 35 years of national and international senior leadership experience, he brings a track record in for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals, as well as academic medical centers and large health systems. Mr Atkinson will assume his new duties immediately.
Mr Atkinson joins a dedicated team of executives who specialise in supporting Academic Medical Centers and Children’s Hospitals. He will lead a number of interim and consulting executives nationwide who focus on providing leadership solutions for these important B. E. Smith clients.

Prior to joining B. E. Smith, Mr Atkinson held leadership positions at several leading healthcare organisations including Indiana University Health System, John Hopkins Health System, Ascension and Provena Health Systems. This experience encompassed positions such as vice president of patient care services, chief nursing officer and vice president of integrated care management.
Mr Atkinson holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida and is certified Six Sigma Green Belt from Villanova University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American Organisation of Nurse Executives (AONE), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), American Care Management Association (ACMA), as well as the Illinois Organisation of Nurse Leaders (IONL) and the Indiana Organisation of Nurse Executives (IONE).
