Spencer Ogden Makes Sunday Times Best Small Companies List
Spencer Ogden ranked 64th in The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For 2014 list.
David Spencer-Percival, CEO of Spencer Ogden, said: “To be acknowledged by the Sunday Times for a second year in a row is amazing, especially given the speed at which we have grown in the last twelve months. It would be easy to lose sight of staff-wellbeing, but we understand that our staff are the life-force of our company and they need to be looked after.”
While evaluating the business, aspects including gender splits, staff turnover, training opportunities and wellness programmes were considered. The average age of Spencer Ogden’s 345 workers was found to be 25, while staff turnover was 11 per cent.
Spencer Ogden allocates an average of £1,200 to training for each employee annually – and 80 per cent said they feel there are no limits on the ways they can learn and develop at the company. The number of workers within the organisation doubled last year, and 91 per cent of those say they are excited about where the organisation is going.
In a further explanation of Spencer Ogden’s ranking, the Sunday Times commented that almost half of the company’s current employees joined the company straight out of university, entering through one of the business’ graduate academies. It singled out one former graduate who has gone on to head a contract team at the Singapore office.
“We were pleased to see the Spencer Ogden Graduate Academies receive a special mention,” said Mr Spencer-Percival. “We put a lot of effort into recruiting and training young graduates; they are the future of our company and of the industry. In fact, using some of the £2m Sir Peter’s recently invested into the business, we plan on increasing the number of academies we run in the coming year.”
The judges were also impressed by Spencer-Ogden’s incentive scheme, which includes an office located on a beach in Ibiza for top performers. Since the benefit was introduced, 25 staff – in both sales and operational positions – have travelled there for work. Other incentive schemes praised included the company’s dress-up days.
The Sunday Times publishes its annual list of the UK’s top 100 companies to work for in conjunction with Best Companies Ltd. Based on the same judging criteria, Best Companies Ltd has awarded Spencer Ogden a 3-star accreditation.
