Penna’s Simon Drake Elected As New IMA Chair
The Interim Management Association (IMA), the industry body representing UK interim management service providers, has elected a new Chairman – Simon Drake from Penna Executive Interim.
Mr Drake will take up the post with immediate effect, and his first task will involve running the body’s AGM on 20th March. He takes over the role from Jason Atkinson, Managing Director at Russam Interim, who held the position for three years.
Mr Drake has been an active member on the IMA’s executive committee for the last three years, overseeing new memberships and special projects, which involved creating a specialist insurance offering for IMA members and interim managers. He has supported the IMA’s response to issues such as IR35 and the conduct regulations consultation. His main focus will be to bring the IMA brand closer to the client or end-user.
“I am delighted to have been elected as the new IMA chairman. I believe the organisation now needs to strengthen the great work it is already doing around informing and advising organisations that regularly use interim managers of the value of working through an IMA Approved member firm,” said Mr Drake.
He added: “When it comes to the procurement of interim management services, a portion of the market appreciates that this is not the same as hiring a temp or a contract resource. However, I would argue that there are still a large number of organisations who still have not recognised this, and – as a result – they fail to understand how to procure interim management services with a best practice approach and don’t appreciate what ‘good’ looks like when it comes to interim management.”
Mr Drake will be supported by an executive team, who will cover off areas including membership, research and affiliate partnerships.
Mr Atkinson commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as chairman of the IMA and am proud of the achievements that we have made in terms of promoting the value of interim management to the public and private sectors.
“The time has come to hand over the reins, and I firmly believe that Simon will do an excellent job in continuing to progress the organisation.”
Tom Hadley, Director of Policy at the REC, said: “This is a hugely important time for the interim management sector to have a strong collective voice to government and business. We look forward to working with Simon to build on what has been achieved over the last few years in fighting our corner on key policy issues such as IR35 and in actively promoting the contribution of interim management providers to the UK economy and labour market.”
